Entry: Ticket prices start from R60 per person
Time: 12h00 - 17h00
Liewe Heksie, the brainchild of Verna Vels, became a household name in 1963, with Vels reading the stories on the then Afrikaans radio service of the SABC. Today Liewe Heksie has become part of South Africa's national heritage with thousands of South Africans sharing in the memories of the country's favourite witch! Besides the radio broadcasts and books, the Liewe Heksie stories were published in various other forms including records, CDs, puppets and two television series.
Frans Swart of Lefra Productions directed the Liewe Heksie stage production and says; "To me, this is a wonderful honour. I was a camera man on the Liewe Heksie show years ago, and that is why it is such a challenge for me to direct Heksie. I was privileged to work with Verna Vels and Louise Smit in those days, to produce Liewe Heksie for TV. Verna gave us wonderful characters, stories and dialogue to work with ... I am really looking forward to directing the stage version!"

REEFSTEAMERS DAY TRIPS

Date: 25 September; 2, 30 October; 6 November; 4, 11, 18 December 2010
Venue: Maraisburg Railway Station, 38 6th Street, Maraisburg, Florida, Roodepoort
Entry: R195 pp; Children 4 – 12: R140 pp; Children under 4: free
Time: 09h00 - 16h30
Reefsteamers is dedicated to the preservation of steam trains and their history, and this trip is ideal for those who wish to return to the romantic time of steam-driven transport. Hop on the train at Maraisburg station in Johannesburg and become lulled to relaxation by the sound of the train’s pumping wheels and the occasional spray of steam.
The train stops in Magaliesburg, where guests have the option of either stopping at the three-star Magaliesburg Country Hotel for a lovely buffet lunch or stopping at the Magaliesburg station itself for a wholesome picnic out in the sun. There is a lot of space for the kids to run around and play here, as well as things to do such as jumping castles and water slides. There is also an area that is covered, offering the ideal opportunity for braais. The picnic area also has plenty of shady trees and is located alongside a tranquil river.
The return journey is usually the highlight of the day – the climb from Magaliesburg to Krugersdorp is a challenge for the locomotive with all the steep gradients and sharp curves, and the enthusiast can enjoy the sounds of the train working hard. It is said that there is only one man-made machine that can express its emotions and that’s a steam locomotive. Sit back and listen to it talking to you!

Not quite so long ago in a land not so far away, namely Yama-Lama-Hop-Skip-en Jumping-Jack-Vir-Brekvis-Eet-Ons-Wors-en-Spek-Laagte-Fontein, lived a fun loving Hip-Hopping Chick in Red. You might think you know this story… you don’t. This age old fairytale of Red Riding Hood and the Wolf has been given a very interesting new story line. Would you believe that even the Three Little Pigs, Sparerib, Pork Chop and Worsie feature in this pantomime. The Big Bad Wolf joins forces with Daisy De Melkkan Sousutzka, the evil Sangoma women who is going to help him with his pork obsession …or is she? Snow White and Rooikêppie become the bffs when Rooikêppie saves Snow White from the mesmerized Woody Wood Chop. There is a lot of magic, laughter, fun and unexpected turns in this story. This production will be enjoyed by all, whether you are a pre-schooler, pupil, parent or pensioner.
NOT TO BE MISSED!

It is the only museum of its kind in South Africa, and is home to the largest collection of money used in this country’s past. It displays ranges from fairly early money forms, such as cowrie shells and Venetian glass beads, through to gold coins recovered from sunken ships. In the past, people traded with commodity money, such as salt, sea shells, metal and animals. The Museum also houses a collection of 600 money boxes, as well as technology exhibits. “The Museum’s educational programmes are aimed at increasing financial literacy, creating awareness for economic history and highlighting the importance of saving,” says Dr. Paul Bayliss, Corporate Social Investment Manager at Absa. The Museum specialises in tours for the hearing-impaired, and entrance is free of charge – now that’s good news in the current financial climate!
