The Peoples Theatre presents "Spot's Birthday Party", which takes the audience to the magical world of Spot the pup. The show blends action, song and dance into a laugh-a-minute edutainment mix. The National Children’s Theatre presents “African Tapestries”, a creative and energetic production that offers a fun-filled educational experience for kids and parents alike. The show is a combination of marvellous stories and rich, melodious sounds from Africa. The NCT has a rich theatrical history, and since its founding by artistic director Joyce Levinsohn in 1989, it has staged almost 100 musical productions and has performed to tens of thousands of people! The theatre began as a touring troupe to schools, libraries and senior centres, but it is now housed in one of the most visited heritage sites in Johannesburg, Parktown.

LIEWE HEKSIE AT EMPERORS PALACE

Liewe Heksie, the brainchild of Verna Vels, became a household name in 1963, with Vels reading the stories on the then Afrikaans radio service of the SABC. Today Liewe Heksie has become part of South Africa's national heritage with thousands of South Africans sharing in the memories of the country's favourite witch! Besides the radio broadcasts and books, the Liewe Heksie stories were published in various other forms including records, CDs, puppets and two television series.

Frans Swart of Lefra Productions directed the Liewe Heksie stage production and says; "To me, this is a wonderful honour. I was a camera man on the Liewe Heksie show years ago, and that is why it is such a challenge for me to direct Heksie. I was privileged to work with Verna Vels and Louise Smit in those days, to produce Liewe Heksie for TV. Verna gave us wonderful characters, stories and dialogue to work with ... I am really looking forward to directing the stage version!"

Not quite so long ago in a land not so far away, namely Yama-Lama-Hop-Skip-en Jumping-Jack-Vir-Brekvis-Eet-Ons-Wors-en-Spek-Laagte-Fontein, lived a fun loving Hip-Hopping Chick in Red. You might think you know this story… you don’t. This age old fairytale of Red Riding Hood and the Wolf has been given a very interesting new story line. Would you believe that even the Three Little Pigs, Sparerib, Pork Chop and Worsie feature in this pantomime. The Big Bad Wolf joins forces with Daisy De Melkkan Sousutzka, the evil Sangoma women who is going to help him with his pork obsession …or is she? Snow White and Rooikêppie become the bffs when Rooikêppie saves Snow White from the mesmerized Woody Wood Chop. There is a lot of magic, laughter, fun and unexpected turns in this story. The new movies began in March, and include an exciting science-fiction film “Robots of Mars” and a cute coming-of-age story “Turtle Vision”.
