WONDERMOM'S SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS

Most of us went through Lamaze or some such class to prepare us for the marvel of birth. Dontcha think

it would be more useful to have classes that prepared us for the real pangs of raising children? I think I'm going to start my own school. There's a need for this! I'll start by offering the following classes, taught by seasoned mothers with years of experience.

Lassie Go Home
It's just a matter of time before your children relentlessly hound you (pardon the pun) for a dog. This class will help you say "no" and stick to your guns! We have great negative-reinforcement techniques, including our patented Horror on a Loop® Power Point presentation showing such pleasantries as dog hair on the couch, dingleberries on the rug and dog bombs in the yard. During our - A Clockwork Orange unit you will, among other things, be forced to hold a dog on a leash for an hour while freezing water is poured down on you. We make use of role-playing in which we pair off, each of us taking turns acting as the mom and the kid. You'll be amazed at how this hones your strength as the mom and gets you up to speed with the ways the kids will try to break you down.

After graduation, we offer a 24/7 helpline to call in case you start to cave. And at no extra charge, we will send someone over to slap you until you have regained your senses.

LOWERCASE AND UPPERCASE FLOOR ALPHABET FUN

If your little ones are interested in upper and lower case letters and like matching things up and loves to colour things in then this is for you.......

You need: roll of fax paper, permanent marker, crayons, A4 paper cut in half

Instructions: Write out the uppercase alphabet in order on the fax paper using a permanent marker and tape it to the floor, then write out the lower case letters on some A4 paper that you cut in half. The kids colour them in with crayons and put them with the correct upper case letters. You can also encourage them to colour the upper case and corresponding lower case letter in the same colour.

UPCOMING MOVIE FOR THE KIDS

Up

Release Date: Friday, 11 September 2009 (Ster-Kinekor)(Nu-Metro)

Suitable for Ages 5 and up

In this latest hilarious CGI-animated venture from Pixar Entertainment (Ratatouille, Wall-E) directors Bob Peterson and Pete Docter (Monsters Inc.) tell the delightful story of an old man who floats away on a great expedition after he ties thousands of balloons to his house.

78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen (Ed Asner) has always wanted to see South America since he made a promise to a childhood friend that they would go see it together. And when, some 70 years later the same friend passes away, he decides to finally make his unrealised dream come true by affixing innumerate brightly coloured balloons to his home and floating away.

However, as he becomes airborne, Carl realizes he is not alone in the house, because stowed away on his front porch is an excitable eight-year-old wilderness explorer named Russell (Jordan Nagai) who was only present as he was trying to earn a 'helping the elderly' merit badge.

However, now that they're up there's no going back and together, they encounter talking dogs, an evil villain and a rare bird named Kevin.

Later, as the house touches down on the world's second largest continent, Carl and his unlikely travelling companions step outside to find that not only is their new front lawn considerably larger, but that the predators therein are much more ferocious than anything they ever faced back home.
