AUGUST 2010

 EXERCISE AND DlET

I decided last week I was tired of being exhausted by 3 p.m. and I wanted a change. So I set out on a mission to learn the tips and techniques used by the "professional parents" to stay full of energy and vigour all day long. After much research, I learned that in order to conquer this quest I would simply have to change a few things, make minor alterations to my day and be disciplined enough to follow through.

EXERCISE - It was clear to me that I had to get an adequate amount of exercise in each day (other than laundry, vacuuming and lifting heavy toy crates). I had heard Yoga was the most effective way to tone muscles while feeding the mind. I was pumped! I rolled out the exercise mat and popped in the DVD. They told me that the best way to learn the routines was to watch first. So I did. I sat on my mat and powered down a 1L of ice cream while I watched these crazy women contort themselves into positions that would definitely make my husband a believer.

I quit..........

DlET -  I KEEP TRYING TO LOSE WElGHT BUT IT KEEPS FINDING ME. “Okay,” I told myself, "if you don’t exercise you could just eat right." I knew this was going to be no problem. I am intelligent enough to understand that food feeds the mind; really though, my motivation was the extra 20 kg of baby weight I was carrying around. I could care less about nutrition. I had stocked my refrigerator and freezer with Weigh-Less meals. My first day, I awoke really excited. I poured a cup of coffee (not even my kids would ask me to give that up), and debated on what to have for breakfast. My only option was a slim shake. By 9:15, I was starving. But I had will power and I would not give in. I had another cup of coffee. By 11a.m. I was in the freezer digging out a Weigh-Less meal. I put it in the microwave and ate the puny portion and sat back -- I was not full at all, so I put another one in the microwave and ate it. Fortunately after the third one I was finally full. I realised that I would be broke within a week.......

I quit...again.

I have decided that I am happy with myself.  This is life........ My kids own my energy and I am simply on their borrowed time.
