KINDERTEATER: ASPOESTERTJIE BY DIE BOER

Date: 6 February 2010

A GLIMPSE INTO THE LIFE OF A MODERN DAY PARENT

Wake up to the words, “Mom! My bed is wet.”  For some reason, you feel compelled to check for yourself instead of just stripping the bed, as if your child would lie about such a thing just for kicks.  Notice that the bed is not just damp, but that it rivals the swampy conditions found in the Everglades.
On the way to school, categorize and prioritize your day’s tasks thusly:  Should-do, Need-to, Said-I-would, Have-to, Dying-to. Rearrange these several times, until you have ignored them all. Drop off your child at school. When the teacher tells you that there is now a confirmed case of pinkeye circulating the school in addition to foot and mouth disease, rotavirus, and head lice, heave an audible sigh. Go to work and clear your schedule for the next five to seven days, knowing that your child is certain to be infected with all four ailments that day.
During the day, give yourself a headache asking yourself why you’re not doing more with your life.  Draw harsh comparisons between yourself and those you consider to be “successful.” Forgo drinking water and eating healthy foods that day in favour of consuming only those things consisting of caffeine and/or sugar..
When the economy crashes, pretend to understand why you should be freaking out, then secretly congratulate yourself for not having any money to lose in the financial black hole.
At the end of one of your daily freak out sessions, realize, very abruptly, that you’re almost 40.  Decide to become a librarian, based on someone once telling you that the average age of Library Science students is 35. Write down, “become a librarian” on a slip of paper and leave it on the nightstand so that you can look into it later.  Find the piece of paper with your childs name scribbled all over it on the kitchen table when clearing the dishes.
The next morning, make the bed.  Go to the sink to wash your face. Try not to curse aloud upon discovering that you have pinkeye.

Cupcake cones

icecream cupcakes.jpg

Recipe from: - http://www.instructables.com/id/Cupcake-Cones/

Ingredients:

  • Your favorite cake recipe or mix
  • Ice cream cones
  • Frosting
  • Sprinkles etc. for decorating
  • Optional. - an empty egg carton to use as a cone holder for baking

Method:

- Cut bottoms out of empty paper/cardboard egg carton to hold cones
- Place empty cones into holder
- Fill 2/3 full will batter
- Bake in the egg carton at 175'C for about 30 minutes. It won't char the paperboard. Cones can also be baked in a 13X9-inch baking pan or in muffin pan cups.
- Test doneness with a long wooden skewer. Even when baked on top, they might be a bit undercooked in the bottom of the cone.
- Frost cupcakes and decorate as desired
