ATLANTIC RAIL DAY TRIPS

Date: 12 February 2012
Time: 10h30 - 16h40
Venue: Monument Station, Cape Town
Cost: Prices are R220 for Adults and R110 for Children 3 to 12.
If you are looking for something different to do with family, friends or even on your own, why not take a steam train ride on one of the day trips run by Atlantic Rail? Our train consists of wooden bodied vintage coaches dating from 1922 to 1938. One of the coaches is a lounge car with a full cash bar service. The steam locomotive we use is a Class 24 steam loco built in 1949.
We run regular day trips around the peninsula. This scenic route winds along the rugged coast of False Bay with the waves crashing on the rocks below, through villages scrambling up the steep slopes and along the beautiful coves and beaches.
The train leaves Cape Town and travels between the famous Newlands rugby and cricket grounds to Muizenburg. Traveling on to False Bay where the view of the ocean is spectacular. The railway line skirts the rocks as it travels through the quaint village of Kalk Bay, then snakes through Fish Hoek and Glencairn, finally coming to an end in Simonstown with a view of the naval dockyard.
Passengers are free to go to the beach, grab a bite to eat or stroll through the town.
The train returns along the same route back to Cape Town.
BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL info@atlanticrail.co.za and 021 556 1012 (office hours) to book!

DELHEIM PICNICS DAILY BY THE RIVERSIDE

Date: Daily until April 2012
Time: 12h00 - 15h00
Venue: Delheim wine farm, Knorhoek Road, Stellenbosch
Cost: A basket for two R260 (excluding additional beverages), basket for four R520, A special basket for children under the age of 12, is R65
Summer has arrived, the mercury is rising, and attention turns again to the sunny Cape outdoors. Enjoy a gourmet picnic on the lawn at the riverside behind the Delheim cellar (mere meters away from where Bessie the cow drank 20 litres of wine: though we don’t suggest a repeat performance by our visitors!) seven days a week at 12h00, until the end of April 2012. The best score of all is the Delheim wine, sold at cellar door prices to Delheim picnickers, sans a restaurant mark-up.
On the menu this season is smoked salmon; a salad of home-smoked chicken breast with celery, spring onions, homemade pickled pumpkin and pomegranate kernels; a curried lentil salad with mint and peppadews; mascarpone cheese & fig spread; leberwurst pâté; locally-made blue cheese; freshly-cut biltong; homemade dolmades; zwiebelkuchen (German onion pie); beef samoosas; pimento-stuffed olives from Chrisna’s Deli; sun-ripened cocktail tomatoes; freshly-baked farm bread; focaccia and crackers.
Those who still have room for dessert can opt for fresh fruit or something sweeter – koeksisters & Gabriele chocolates (which I’m sure would be Bessie’s choice; but don’t let that dissuade you!) A large bottle of sparkling water is included in the price and a vegetarian option is available on request.
A special basket for children under the age of 12, priced at R65, includes a bratwurst hotdog, carrot sticks, raisins, Gouda cheese, crackers, yoghurt, fresh fruit, a chocolate brownie with ice cream, and a fruit juice.
Best of all, if you bounce out of bed to discover a sunny day, let us know before 10h30 and your basket can still be prepared.
